That Cathy doesn't sell

If you want to buy a pizza
Don't bother stopping by
You won't find it
'Cause it starts with letter P
And you won't find eggs or bacon
Or turkey, ham, or peas
'Cause Cathy only sells the type of food
That starts with C

She sells crispy cold cucumbers
She sells carrots by the bag
And the C-food that she sells
Includes fresh catfish, clams, and crab
If you're looking for some cabbage
Or a cantaloupe that's sweet

Suggested Activities

Center City is home to an unusual grocery store in this song. Cathy's Country Cupboard only sells C-food -- that is, food that begins with the letter C.

With your child, make a list of food items that begin with the letter C. Collect labels, boxtops, and items in your home to create your own grocery store. Visit supermarkets and try to identify items that Cathy might sell. Include non-food items such as cards, cups and cleaners in your inventory. Rate various items as to their desirability, i.e. candy :), cauliflower :(

As a higher level activity, group the items by the various sounds of letter C (hard C, soft C, CH phonogram).
