Once upon a time there were some kindergarten kids
Named Kevin, Kelsey, Kim and Kirt and Kate
And though they knew the alphabet by heart
They all agreed
There was no better letter than the letter K

They knew that kings and kites and kissing kangaroos
All start with K
And kaleidoscope and key and ketchup too
They knew that rock and block and snack
And black and stick all end with K
So this is what they all decided they should do

They would form a club for kids who really
Liked the letter K
And the only way that they would let you in
Is if you proved you knew the K sound
And could say it thirteen times
So at centers time one morning they began

And one by one the children in that kindergarten class
Joined the K Club, and all they had to do
Was say the sound of letter K
They had to say it thirteen times
Now I think I could do that, how about you?

That was perfect, now you're members of the K Club
Just like me
And Kevin, Kelsey, Kim and Kirt and Kate
And all the other kids in that kindergarten class

Suggested Activities

The kids in this song love the letter K (could it be because their names start with K?). The club that they form doesn't require a name beginning with K, just the ability to say the /k/ sound thirteen times. This is harder than it sounds, but with a little effort and careful counting it can be done.

For those kids who pass the test, die cut 4" letter K's on lamenated construction paper (they can do this for you at most any teacher supply store for pennies) for membership badges. Create secret handshakes to go with the /k/ sounds for a truly exclusive club.
