The nice thing about a Christmas album is that it stays in the loop for at least another five to ten years. I must admit, coming down off this one in January was a toughie - the most abrupt stop ever in concert touring. I was in need of a Christmas detox centre as this album took up the whole of last year, from recording, to cover, to busy touring in the fall. However, I'm already looking forward to the next album and am working on writing new material.

Christmas can be crazy but it has always meant a lot for me - family, friendship-wise, as well as spiritually. I lived in Montreal for my first eleven years, followed by twelve more years in England. This album blends some impressions of that formative eastern culture, mixed in with the UK/European influences.

Over the last 10 years, I've been adapting the dulcimer to Christmas carols. It's featured on all but two songs. There's a mixture of familiar carols to lesser known international ones and a few originals. I've tried to keep the songs invitational, so that you can join in the celebration. Part of the miracle of Christmas is that the inextinguishable light that came 2000 years ago is still travelling.
